Falling in and Out of Dreams

The morning greets us gently with new light pushing its way through the blinds. It kisses the walls, the ceiling, the blankets, touseled from the night. The morning embraces our figures and spreads over our closed eyes. It whispers in our ears, it reminds us that life awaits beyond the confines of these sheets. Two bodies tangled in the blanket, we are molded to each other. Two bodies melted together, like a sort of alien, a leg appears here, another foot there, three arms and two heads peak out. We rest peacefully one heartbeat pressed to the other.

In and out I fall, between and through dreams, slowly I become more aware of my surroundings, the tickle of your breath, the weight of your arm, the scent of your skin, deadly. Sleep works its way through my body. In and out I fall, until I land on my feet, my heart rate quickens and I rejoin the living on earth. I have not forgotten that I fell asleep next to you in the night, I find no alarm in waking up in your arms. Yet, as the veil of consciousness lifts to reveal the new day your form comes into focus, almost unknown. My sleepy eyes register a strong jaw, soft lips, the gentle curve of your shoulder. The sound of sheets slipping around us as the morning works its way into our bodies, dancing around each other. Soft eyes meet mine. Eyes like I’ve known for years, eyes like you’ve known for years. Lips turn up in a delicate smile. Somewhere near the ocean washes over the shore, counting minutes into this new space. Now, fully awake, I see you. It’s almost as if this is the first time I have glimpsed your face. It is pure, and it amazes me. This face belongs to your body, your strong arms, belongs to your mind, beating to a rhythm that sounds like life, belongs to you.

Oh how long I’ve waited to see this face of yours. Of course this isn’t the first time I’ve seen you, but I’m amazed all the same. The world waits for us out there, but let us remain here for a while longer, bodies wrapped up in each other folded in fresh light, good morning sweet boy.
